Microsoft has quietly released the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge Canary build on the popular Android platform. The latest Edge Can build on Android has version number 91.0.858.0. It comes with a fresh UI, other changes, and performance improvements.

Needless to say that the Canary builds are not recommended to use on corporate and production devices, but they come in handy to try out the new features before the public release.

1. The initial release on the Play Store doesn't say which version Edge Canary has been posted, but on my Pixel 5, it's 91.0.859.0, the same release version as Edge Canary on Windows.

Microsoft Edge Canary is now available on Android

Microsoft wants Edge browser to be available on all major platforms. To meet this target, they have already released the new Microsoft Edge (Chromium) on desktop, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS devices. As of now, the Edge browser on Android is running on version 77; whereas, the Edge browser on the desktop is running on version 90.

During the Ignite/2021 virtual conference, Microsoft announced that the unified version of Edge will be running on desktop and mobile platforms from the same codebase.

With the release of the Microsoft Edge Canary build on Android, users can download the preview builds and try out the new features and improvements pushed from the development branch daily. This is worth noting that the build may have known or unknown bugs as it is from the active development channel.

Though the release of the new Edge Canary browser on Android devices is not yet officially announced by Microsoft, you can still go to the Google Play Store and download Edge Canary on your Android mobile.

Edge is quickly becoming one of the leading browsers out there, as the move to the Chromium engine has allowed Microsoft to turn it into a cross-platform offering with features that can easily roam across devices. The mobile versions of Edge are also growing in popularity especially as more people stick with the same browser on the desktop, with statistics showing that close to 10 percent of the computers out there still run Microsoft’s Edge on a daily basis.
